On February 22, the BUS 360 – Global Business Strategies class, as well as other students from Camosun, UVic and RRU participated in a career fair and networking event, which had a focus on global communications opportunities - at home and abroad.

The night's Master of Ceremonies was Ruth Mojeed , CPRS-VI Board Director, with panelists Iris Mueller, Brian Cant , Doug Brown and Susan Brown.

Iris, a Camosun BBA – Marketing grad, first came to Victoria as an international student. Iris is currently Marketing Coordinator for BC Transit. Iris shared stories about how she successfully found a career job in communications and provided advice and tips for international students looking to establish a communications career in Canada.

Brian and Doug, the senior communications professionals on the panel, talked about:

  • what it’s like to work in public relations in other countries,
  • what skills/abilities/attitudes are helpful to have when working abroad,
  • possible career paths, and
  • how CPRS and the Global Alliance can help your career take flight.

Susan, a career coach at Camosun who specializes in international employment, shared tips and resources for work abroad.

“Let me first of all thank you for last night's event. I have been to several networking events but this was the best. It was really a pleasure to meet all these people. I really appreciate your efforts to help us move forward,” says Lama Hamdoun, Camosun College student.
