Dean’s Message • Cynthia Smith
Welcome to the School of Health and Human Services!
We are a diverse school including programs that educate learners interested in nursing, health care assistant, dental, allied health care, addictions and mental health as well as social services, early learning and care, and education support roles.
We have a range of students from all ages, cultures and backgrounds and we strive to make each student feel welcome and supported in their learning experiences.
All programs have a practical component where clinical and service skills are honed. Graduates go on to build healthy communities wherever they land.
With the growing need to work in an interdisciplinary manner and as part of a team we strive to offer students inter-professional opportunities.
The school has recently developed its five-year strategic plan.
The vision for students, staff and those we serve is:
Flourishing individuals, families and communities
The mission is:
We integrate practice, service and theory through inclusive, interdisciplinary and holistic approaches to education.
The goals are:
- An engaged, interdisciplinary, holistic learning environment that prepares students for success in practice, service and future opportunities.
- Excellence in education, professionalism in practice and service
- Strong relationships and collaborative partnerships between practice and education
- A healthy workplace culture
- A dynamic, innovative and sustainable learning environment
I hope the strategic plan speaks to your experience at Camosun College. Please let me know.
I try to meet students in the classroom or on campus. Students are always welcome to stop by the Dean’s office in Fisher 305.
