International Students Flock to Camosun this Summer

Camosun College International is excited to announce the arrival of over 150 energetic students and visiting staff to the Lansdowne Campus this summer to participate in short-term customized programs. Students from Soyo High School (Japan) and Maple Leaf Educational Systems (China) will be the first to arrive in July. These programs will represent the first international experience for many of the students, who will arrive in one of five groups from Japan and China between July and September.

CCI has organized action-packed two-week customized programs for each group. While on campus, students will study English language and Canadian culture. Program participants will also join a variety of fun-filled activities both on and off-campus.

Camosun College has had a longstanding relationship with each of these schools, some for more than two decades. This summer’s enrollment of more than 150 customized program participants is the largest such group hosted by CCI in many years. “It is wonderful to see our partnerships growing stronger” said Dawn Sutherland, Director of CCI. “This is an excellent opportunity for these students to learn about the college environment and what we have to offer, but also a rich learning experience for us as their Canadian hosts”.

International Student Orientation

September 1-3, 2010
During the orientation, students meet other new and experienced students and:
* get an early start on buying text books, getting ID cards and bus passes before the line-ups
* learn about the services that are here to help you in your academic success and cultural adjustment
* Take student-guided campus tours on both campuses
* Meet Peer Connections students
* Receive an Orientation package, a Student Handbook, and a Student Safety Card.

CCI End-of-Term BBQ

CCI hosted international students and staff for a fun afternoon of food and prizes on Thursday, April 8. During the afternoon, Ms Ayumi Hosokawa was awarded with the 2010 International Student Award and a cheque for $750. Afterwards, the group worked off some pre-exam jitters in the “Gladiator Ring”. Student Gurinder Banwait knocked off a string of competitors, including CCI’s Marc Bavin and Associate Director, Thevi Pather, to claim the championship.
