Sexualized Violence Awareness Week (SVAW) Sept 18-22, 2023

Camosun students and employees are annually invited to join in on a week of conversations, information, and workshops on the topic of Sexualized and Gender-Based Violence Prevention.

The Office of Student Support coordinates a variety of engaging learning opportunities designed to create awareness around sexualized and gender-based violence prevention and support options on campus.

September 18, Monday: Social Media Takeover

Student Support Managers at the Office of Student Support are joined by Manager of Counselling and Student Wellness for an Instagram Live to kick off Sexual Violence Awareness Week. Tune in to hear more about how Camosun supports students impacted by sexual and gender-based violence and about what Camosun is doing to support a community of care, respect and safety, free from violence.

September 19 - 20, Tuesday & Wednesday: Community Fair

Come out to the Sexualized Violence Awareness Week Fair where we are joined by Victoria-based community organizations, such as, Victoria Women’s Transition House, Men’s Therapy Centre, Restorative Justice Victoria and others! Learn about the important work these organizations are doing in the community and learn how you can contribute to creating safer space on-campus and the larger community.

Effectively Responding to Disclosures of Sexual and Gender-based Violence

Increase your confidence as Camosun staff or faculty when responding to disclosures of sexual violence, learn how to recognize the impacts of trauma, make appropriate referrals, and help create a culture of safety and respect at Camosun.

Bringing in the Bystander - A Workshop for Camosun Students

Become a pro-social bystander and learn to overcome resistance when having to intervene during acts of sexualized violence. Learn effective strategies that can be applied to a range of instances and contribute in creating a compassionate community response to prevent sexualized violence and foster a safer environment on campus.
