Current Students
Useful information for current HHS students to guide and support your academic journey!
School and Program Handbooks
Once enrolled in an HHS program, you're required to familiarize yourself with the information found in your school and program handbooks. Policies and expectations unique to our school are outlined in these handbooks. In some cases they duplicate those of the college and the clinical environment and are repeated here in order to emphasize their importance.
Student Practice Labs and Simulation Spaces
HHS Students are provided access to the practice labs and simulation spaces, outside of scheduled lab and/or class time to allow them the opportunity to expand on their hands-on skills.
Students are expected to follow the simulation and practice lab guidelines at all times. If students are not adhering to posted guidelines, practice times may be suspended. Below are general guidelines:
- Follow all COVID-19 Safety Guidelines,
- Lab Rules and Public Health Orders
- Absolutely NO family, friends or non-program students are permitted in practice labs or simulation spaces.
In addition to the above, students must agree to follow posted rules and guidelines in spaces. Some spaces require proximity card access which requires a signed Proximity Card Contract.
Students are encouraged to become familiar with Section 7 of their program handbooks “Classroom, Lab, or Clinic Etiquette”
Available Simulation and Practice Lab Times
Days and times will vary term-to-term. Please refer to the specific program extra lab practice booking site for available times.
Important! Students may NOT be present in practice Labs or simulation spaces unless they have an active practice booking or are attending a scheduled lab class.
Learning for Practice, Learning for Change
Our programs are designed to ensure that learners master the theory and skills necessary for caring, safe and effective practice. A variety of clinics and agencies become the “living laboratories” where supervised practice encourages learners to develop the values and competencies required for health and human service positions. Placements are provided at a variety of sites on Vancouver Island to provide a diverse clinical experience.
