As upgrading programs and courses are tuition-free for domestic students, you will be able to study English as a Second Language (ESL) and Academic Upgrading tuition-free*.*Please note that CUAET students are still responsible for paying non-instructional fees, Camosun College Student Society (CCSS) fees and levies, including CCSS Student Benefits Plan (if and where applicable) as well as other applicable fees. CUAET permit holders are not eligible for Adult Upgrading Grant (formerly ABESAP) funding at this time.English Language Development (ESL)There are eight course levels ranging from ELD 010 English Basics 1 to ELD 097 Professional and Academic English. The duration of each level is up to 4 months (1 term).Academic UpgradingOur upgrading courses can help you prepare for further academic studies, complete admission requirements to college or university programs or satisfy a personal goal.Academic programsExplore a variety of certificates, diplomas and applied degrees available at Camosun College.Getting the right documentsLong-term ESL program (more than 6 months)If you are interested in studying for 6 months or longer at Camosun, you are required to apply and receive a study permit under CUAET program from the Government of Canada before the first day of classes.Proof of Acceptance (electronic copy of your letter of acceptance) will be provided once you have been admitted to Camosun College and paid a non-refundable registration deposit.Can you have a work permit and study permit at the same time? Yes, please consult the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website about holding a work permit and study permit at the same time. Short-term ESL program (up to 4 months)If you are interested in studying in our 4-month English Language Development (ESL) program, you are encouraged to apply for a study permit, but you won’t be required to receive one, if you have valid documents confirming your CUAET status in Canada for the duration of the given term.Check if you need a study permitIn the second quarter of 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) introduced a temporary public policy that allows some foreign nationals with valid work permits to study without a study permit.
