In 1991, Camosun started its first steps towards a basketball and athletics program by fielding a probationary men's basketball team for the 1991-92 season. Aaron Smith and Colin Brousson were coaches and Eric Valdal and Massimo Segato were co-captains. Camosun supported the team with $5000 for travel costs and a team van. Multiple wins over Trinity Western, Capilano, Douglas College, Langara, Fraser Valley, Kwantlen College and a nailbiter exhibition against Steve Nash’s St. Mikes BC championship team, demonstrated not only that Camosun could field a team within a full schedule, but there was also significant interest and quality basketball talent attending Camosun.
