Acceptance into Camosun's Allied Health & Technologies programs, Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant, Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Medical Radiography requires 40 hours of volunteer work in a patient-related environment
Volunteer Requirements for Allied Health & Technologies programs
The ideal volunteer experience for prospective Allied Health students allows for exposure to the sights and sounds of patient care type activities. Patient-facing volunteer roles are typically found in hospital or long-term care settings. However, it is understood that a range of healthcare related volunteer experiences may prove beneficial to the applicant.
To meet the volunteer hours requirement, you must submit a letter from the facility supervisor (or volunteer coordinator) confirming at least 40 volunteer hours and the roles and responsibilities performed.
Individuals having prior work experience in direct patient care environments (health care assistants, nurses, physicians, paramedics, etc.) may submit a record of employment letter from their employer to meet the volunteer hours requirement.
Individuals providing direct care for a family member or other person of differing mental or physical abilities may meet the volunteer hours requirement and should review their situation with Admissions and Recruitment. Supporting documentation may be required for validation.
Relevant documentation outlining the successful completion of volunteer hours must be received by the final document deadline
The volunteer hours requirement will be discussed at the information session for each program.
