The CICan Paul and Gerri Charette Bursary Program aims to provide financial support to college and institute students who demonstrate financial need and who often face greater challenges and barriers to participating and completing post-secondary education. Students attending colleges or institutes in rural, remote, or northern areas will be given preference for the 20 bursaries of up to $5,000 each.

All eligible students must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled full time in the first year of a multi-year program at a CICan member institution
- Be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant, permanent resident, or a protected person
- Be able to demonstrate financial need
- Preference will be given to students attending colleges or institutes in rural, remote, or northern areas.
Application process
Selection process
- Students must express their interest to apply directly to the college or institute where they are enrolled by September 23, 2024. The institution must be a CICan member
- Camosun’s Financial Aid & Awards office will review applications of interest and submit one eligible student to be considered by the CICan national committee by October 18, 2024.
- Selection by a CICan member institution does not guarantee the student will be selected as a recipient of a bursary.
- Each submission will be reviewed by a national committee of regional representatives from CICan member institutions whose positions are directly related to student services: e.g. registrars, academic counsellors, vice presidents
- Bursaries can be disbursed by semester, $2,500 in the first semester and $2,500 in the second semester.
- Bursaries will be paid directly to the student recipients. Before each disbursement, verification that the student remains enrolled will be required from the institution.
- Bursaries are intended to be used to cover education-related expenses.
