Counselling Intern

Hello, I have lived in Victoria, on the traditional ancestorial territories of the Lkwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ territories since 1999. I am grateful to live in a place surrounded by diverse natural beauty and as a visitor to these lands I aim to tread respectfully and sustainably.

I am in my final year of a Master of Counselling program through City University and am excited to be supporting students at Camosun. I am a practicum student working closely with Laura Paetkau who provides me with regular supervision.

For the past ten years I have worked as a school counsellor in a small alternative high school with youth (and young parents) who have faced challenges finding success within mainstream academic settings. I have over twenty years supporting youth in care. I recognize that some people face considerable challenges with the demands of post secondary education. I value the experience of working with students at all ages and from different cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and gender identities as they navigate these bold steps towards college education and recognize that the journey can come with a lot of stressors!

My theoretical orientation is influenced by an integrated and developmental perspective. I work from a relational, client centered and trauma informed lens. I value a collaborative, strengths based, and solution focused approach. I strive to support those I work with to tune into their intuition, draw on their inner strengths, and highlight their resources. I center ethics in my practice and recognize the importance of clear confidentiality practices.

Outside of work and school I am a mom to two school aged children and can often be found walking my rescue dog at the beach.
