Michael Weaver grew up on Vancouver Island, where his parents owned a popular cake and chocolate making business. This early exposure led Michael to choose a career in the food industry.

In 1996, Michael graduated from the Culinary Arts program at Camosun College while completing his apprenticeship at the Delta Victoria Ocean Point Resort Hotel and Spa. Michael has over 20 years of experience in all aspects of hotel cooking and fine dining, culminating in the opening of the highly acclaimed Lure Restaurant and Bar. He has vast experience in culinary competitions and volunteers in many local food events.

Michael was responsible for the training of apprentices at the restaurant and his enjoyment in his role as a mentor led him to consider a career change.

In 2011, Michael joined Camosun College as an instructor in the Professional Cook Training program. His teaching style is highly energized with an environment structured to ensure the success of his students. Michael relies on advice he received before he began at Camosun: "don't teach shortcuts... do it right."

Michael has completed the Provincial Instructor Diploma program as well as two courses at the San Francisco Baking Institute specializing in Artisan Breads, and Viennoiserie
