Certificate or Advanced Certificate
Graduates of the one year Computer Network Electronics Support Technician option are prepared to work in a number of roles in both the IT and electronics industry in both public and private industries at the maintenance level of systems.
Graduates of the advanced certificate in Computer Network Electronics Technician option will be able to implement, design and configure network systems along with implementing advanced server systems and network security.
Hands-on learning
You'll spend approximately half of your program time in our six dedicated labs, which contain some of the most modern instrumentation found in any North American college.
The program also includes an optional internship component for both options, offered through Co-operative Education and Career Services. This paid work will enable you to experience different employment fields and may even lead to permanent employment.
After graduation
As a graduate of the Computer Network Electronics Support Technician option, you may work as a computer technician, electronics assembler or installer, or security systems technician in installation and repair of computer networking systems.
As a graduate of the advanced certificate in Computer Network Electronics Technician, you may work at an entry level in the network management, computer maintenance, or industrial or consumer repair fields.
Skills you'll gain
You don't need any previous knowledge of computers or electronics to enrol in this program. By the time you graduate, you'll possess a wide variety of skills, such as: installation and maintenance of computer networking systems; maintenance and repair of personal computers; maintenance and repair of server systems; analog and digital circuit assembly, installation, repair, and maintenance; installation, repair, and maintenance of microprocessor-based equipment; and technical sales support.
In addition, graduates of the Advanced Certificate will also have the skills to implement workstation security; install and maintain home automation systems; and configure and set up advanced servers.
Certifications
Employers value industry certifications in addition to the Camosun credentials. This program focuses on several industry recognized certifications and takes a practical career-oriented approach to learning with emphasis on the installation, repair and maintenance of computers, servers, computer networks and electronic systems. Students have an opportunity to graduate after two terms of studies or to continue on for a third academic term.
Students in the Computer Network Electronics Support Technician program will have the option of taking vendor exams such as:
Students in the Computer Network Electronics Technician advanced certificate program may additionally take:
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- CompTIA Security +
- LPI
- Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT)
- CPCT
