Chargers CCAA female coach apprentice

Camosun Chargers athletics is proud to announce that Katie Ludvig (Kamloops, B.C./Sa-Hali Secondary School) is participating in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Female Apprentice Coach Program (FACP).

The FACP, which is funded by Sport Canada, is designed to identify and support female graduating student-athletes who demonstrate the desire and skills for coaching by providing them opportunities to grow through the coaching experience in CCAA varsity sports.

Katie played five seasons at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) before heading overseas to play a season in the Czechia. She was named an Academic All-Canadians each year at TRU, and was named captain and Leader of the Year in her fifth year. Ludvig was also part of the first team in TRU Wolfpack history which was nationally ranked and competed in the U-Sport bronze medal match in 2020.

“Being part of the apprenticeship program has allowed me to connect with athletes on a personal level and gain a further understanding of their overall experience in order to prepare me for a future career in sport,” said Ludvig. “The program has been a source of motivation, inspiration and confidence that I will carry with me in my future professional endeavors. It has allowed me to pass on the lessons I've learned through sport and do my part in creating an environment where athletes are able to grow as volleyball players and people.”

“It has been easy to integrate Katie into our team. The athletes love having her around and she adds a lot to their experience,” said women’s volleyball head coach, Brent Hall. “It's also amazing she can be in the gym with us nearly every day while also working a new full-time job and completing a master's degree - her work ethic is uncommon.”

The goal of the FACP is to increase access for young women to coach at a post-secondary competitive level, provide high level quality coaching mentorship, and support their professional development to facilitate their continued pursuit of coaching.
