Women's basketball PACWEST bronze

The Camosun Chargers endured a huge Falcons push to come away from the 2018-19 PACWEST Women’s Basketball Championship with a medal for the second year in a row

The Camosun Chargers put together an impeccable performance to knock out the Okanagan College Coyotes and set up a semifinal date with the Capilano Blues for Friday at 12:30 PM.

The Coyotes played well on both sides of the ball, but the Chargers were able to wriggle out of the tight Okanagan defence with some quick ball movement. Okanagan held their only lead at 2-0, but Camosun went on a 13-2 run to open up a daunting lead as Chargers Player of the Match Tessa Lannon-Paakspuu finished the opening quarter with nine points.  The Chargers were just as impressive in the second quarter, finishing the half with an 18-point lead over the Coyotes.

Okanagan had a better performance in the third quarter, making a couple threes and limiting the Chargers to 12 points, and came flying out of the gates to start the final quarter of play. Camosun took a timeout two minutes in after the Coyotes started the fourth quarter on a 9-3 run, but the Chargers responded with an 8-3 run of their own out of the timeout and quickly regained control of the game. The Chargers came away with a 75-50 win.

The Coyotes Player of the Match was Megan Admussen-Blair, who finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Lannon-Paakspuu had 12 points and 6 rebounds for the Chargers.

Following the game Ryan Watters talked with Chargers head coach Cait Haggarty [listen on SoundCloud].

“An amazing victory, that showcased
 incredible teamwork.”
