Matteo’s understanding of the criminal justice system in Canada got turned on its head after starting in the Criminal Justice program at Camosun. “Before I started the program, I knew a little about the justice system but the program has given me a better grasp of it,” says Matteo. “It’s changed my thinking as I’ve got a better understanding of legislation and the process of the justice system.”
The teachers all bring a wealth of knowledge to the subject areas.
With this knowledge, he has set his sights on making changes to the system from within. “The big thing I would like to change would be addressing the over-representation of indigenous people in the criminal justice system,” says Matteo. The program instructors are there to help along the way. “The teachers all bring a wealth of knowledge to the subject areas, says Matteo. “They’re willing to help you with any questions you may have.”
