Celebrate Black History Month with the Library

Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations

Celebrate achievements and contributions of Black Canadians by visiting the library’s online guide. The guide represents a small sampling of the works by Black authors that are available in the Camosun collection year-round.

This year, the guide includes popular children’s books, including one by local, award winning author Esi Edugyan, about friendship, curiosity, and community. If you’re interested in something more mature, check out the work of Ontario-born Trinidadian author David Chariandy. His books, I’ve Been Meaning to Tell You: A letter to my Daughter and …Brother, both tell stories of hardship and racial discrimination, while growing up in a multicultural community.

Come visit us at the library to browse our Black History Month book displays. For the entire month of February, both campus libraries have librarian-curated displays showcasing items that can be borrowed for four weeks with your Camosun ID.

If you have suggestions for resources that are not yet part of our collection, please let us know by emailing your ideas to library@camosun.ca.
