Vivian Leik

Kwey! I am Algonquin, Mi’kmaq, (Maliseet from the St. John River Valley), and French on my mother’s side with Germanic Austrian heritage from my father’s side (my last name is Germanic and is pronounced ‘like’). I moved to the traditional territories of the Lkwungen peoples in 1986 and I am honoured to have lived and worked in Coast Salish Territory over the past 33 years. I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in 1992 at UVIC with a double major in Psychology and Sociology and then returned for my Master’s degree in 2005. My MA thesis focused on documenting an innovative course that brought Indigenous educational approaches into a university setting, focused around the carving of a traditional house pole. I am happy to be working with Eye?Sqa’lewen and to be supporting Indigenous students in their educational goals.
