Chargers host Pride Night

The Camosun Chargers are excited to announce that, for the first time in the athletics history, the teams will be hosting two Pride Nights this season. The first one is on Friday, Nov. 15 when the basketball teams welcome the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners.

The evening will include halftime performances during both the women’s and men’s games by Camosun students, and the Pride Collective will have a table with information and giveaways. The women tip off at 6pm, followed by the men at 8pm.

“The Chargers Pride Night is a fantastic initiative celebrating and supporting diversity in sports. Events like this are crucial, as many members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, especially non-binary and transgender individuals, often feel sidelined due to prevailing gender norms and stereotypes in the sports world,” said Camosun College Student Society Pride Director, Terence Baluyat.

“I am especially excited about this event as it coincides with Trans Awareness Week, making it both timely and relevant. Chargers Pride Night is a powerful statement of Camosun’s commitment to standing against discrimination and fostering an inclusive environment,” Baluyat added.

“Victoria boasts a vibrant and thriving 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and the Camosun Chargers are dedicated to ensuring an inclusive and safe environment where everyone is welcome. Through active collaboration with the community, we strive to make a meaningful impact by educating, celebrating, and inspiring those involved in our programs,” said Manager, Athletics and Student Life, Scot Cuachon. “Together, we will continue to contribute to a culture of inclusion and respect, where everyone is valued.”

We encourage supporters to wear your colours, learn more, and celebrate Pride!

All Camosun Chargers home games can be live streamed on the Chargers YouTube channel or on Rogers TV. Full team rosters and schedules can be found on the Chargers website.

The Camosun Chargers Athletics program currently fields teams in basketball and volleyball. Since joining the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) and PACWEST conferences in 1994, the Chargers have competed in over 100 national and provincial championships with over 50 medal winning finishes.
