IDE in Health & Human Services

The School of Health and Human Services has led the way by embracing inter-disciplinary

and interprofessional education by enacting school-wide action through its Interdisciplinary Education Framework.

IDE Vision

The School of Health and Human Services is dedicated to preparing students for careers in health care, outreach, and community engagement. With the growing need to work in an interdisciplinary manner and as part of a team, it is becoming more imperative that we integrate practice, service and theory through inclusive, interdisciplinary, and holistic approaches to education.

The delivery of interdisciplinary educational programming will help prepare our graduates for employment in complex work environments where they can understand multiple perspectives, and work with a variety of disciplines, with a focus on the individual, families, and communities.

The vision of interdisciplinary education in the School of Health and Human Services is:

“Students understand multiple perspectives, and work with a variety of disciplines with a focus on the individual, families, and communities.”

IDE Logic Model

To support interdisciplinary education at Camosun College, the School of Health and Human Services has developed its IDE logic model in alignment with the IDE vision. The IDE logic model is powered by inputs from Camosun's Strategic Plan and key stakeholders, along with educational components.

The logic model lists programming or activities achieved and addresses the need for continuous monitoring, updating, and evaluation to recognize the importance of IDE being about the process including the identification of any barriers and facilitators.  Outputs and ultimate outcomes are also listed, within the context of external factors.

IDE Activities & Initiatives

At Camosun, an interdisciplinary focus is being actively developed at the course, program and college level. With collaboration and teamwork, students and faculty are bringing interdisciplinary elements into their coursework, initiatives, projects, practicum opportunities, events, and workplace practice.  Our annual IDE Student Festival brings delegates from across disciplines in Health and Human Services for peer-to-peer learning and showcasing student projects.
