Political Science

Workings of politics and government

Who gets what, when and how? Politics touches upon many other disciplines, such as law, anthropology, economics, history, philosophy, sociology, and psychology.

In the classroom

As a political scientist, you'll look at the ways in which governments exercise power, and how people exercise power over their governments. This leads to all sorts of interesting questions about such things as:

  • how to get involved in politics
  • human nature and different cultures
  • the relationship between politics and law
  • the workings of modern capitalism and alternative economic systems
  • the nature of our past political history
  • the interconnections between individuals and society

Careers in political science are varied and diverse with opportunities in teaching, government, law, research, peace-keeping, and international development.
