Trades Awareness, Skills & Knowledge (TASK)

If you're in high school and interested in a career in trades, TASK will help you make an informed decision about which trade is the best fit for you.

Explore four trade areas: carpentry, electrical, metal trades and plumbing—while gaining practical skills and certifications that all employers are looking for. You'll finish up with valuable work experience at a local job site.

What you'll learn

This full-time five-month program allows you to earn high school credit and a college credential at the same time, with tuition fees covered by your school district.

Through classroom and shop work, as well as visits to the Camosun College trades facilities, you will learn safe work practices and work readiness skills, as well as how to identify and use basic tools and materials. You'll explore the differences between trades and learn about education and training pathways to reach your new career goals.

You'll graduate with three certifications that demonstrate your understanding of workplace safety:

  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • Fall Arrest Protection
  • Confined Space Entry

Getting started

You may apply for this program if you are currently in grade 11 or 12.

The TASK program will be offered in five locations simultaneously, from February to June. You may attend at any one of the locations, provided there is space available.

To apply, contact the career coordinator at the location you wish to attend. After submitting an application, you will be invited for an interview to ensure this program is a good fit for your goals and expectations.

Your tuition will be paid by the respective school district, but you are responsible for the application fee and for purchasing personal safety gear and supplies.
