Architectural

Richard Hutchison

Pearl & Knud Boelt Trades Awards

To be awarded to students in their final year in Plumbing, Culinary, Carpentry, Auto Mechanics or Electrical as needed at Camosun College.

Richard has been at or near the top of his classes over the four years of his schooling. Consistent in theory and practical work, Richard demonstrated a craftsman-like dedication to his studies. At times very serious, in his level 4 class he emerged as a quiet leader in a very good class, working with a particular couple of students who needed help. Richard’s dedication to carpentry and school, in particular, was admirable…even coming by taxi at considerable expense when his usual transportation method failed him. We wish Richard all the best as he continues his journey in carpentry. The industry could use more people with the dedication and skill he has shown.

Danielle Hannan

Saanich Fruit Growers Association Award Horticultural Studies

To celebrate the achievements of a student with high academic standing and a genuine passion for growing food. Priority will be given to a student with a special interest in fruit growing.

It's hard to think of our program this year without mentioning the names Claire and Danni in the same sentence. They both complimented each other and encouraged each other - and the class so well. Danni came to the program with a food-growing background and her passion is for fruits and vegetables. This was very evident but she took everything plant related as important and useful (although turfgrass may have been the one exception). Danni's wisdom and extensive knowledge of the natural world was the common thread this past year that helped connect many of the subjects and experiences for all of us. Danni is currently working in landscape and maintenance but is also pursuing a goal of organic food production and living lightly off the land on a Gulf Island farm. She was an inspirational student. Thank you Danni.
