Camosun expresses its sorrow and stands alongside the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc

Camosun College is horrified by the news that the remains of 215 children have been found in the grounds of the former Kamloops Residential School, which sat on the traditional territory of the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc. Our hearts go out to the families and communities who were and are directly affected by this news and by the original loss of their children. We are all affected. This affirms Camosun’s commitment to redressing the impact of our shared history. In memory of these children, Camosun flags on both campuses will be lowered.

Students

Can I do a Summer 2021 work-term?

If you have completed your CDEV-WPS and COOP-WEP course, then yes! Please follow our Co-op Step by Step more info on how to get the process started.

Are employers posting jobs for the Summer 2021 work-term?

We are receiving postings from employers and students are interviewing and being hired. Students are also having success self-developing work-terms with employers. Contact your program’s Employment Facilitator or Co-op & Internship Coordinator for more information.

How are interviews being conducted?

Interviews continue to primarily be through video conferencing (Zoom, Skype etc.), however as businesses and offices re-open more are being scheduled in-person. Your Co-op program will confirm the type and location of the interview that you’ve been invited to attend. They will also advise you of the safety protocols required to attend an in-person interview.

If you have any concerns with attending an in-person interview, please contact your program’s Employment Facilitator or Co-op & Internship Coordinator for updates.  If the employer has set up the interview directly, follow up with the employer and loop in your co-op coordinator. Interviews will be held virtually via video conferencing or other remote forms.

For my Summer 2021 co-op, will I be working remotely or in-person?

Many co-op work terms are being completed remotely, while some organizations remain open and physical distancing measures have been put in place. Discuss your situation with your potential employer as well as your program’s Employment Facilitator or Co-op & Internship Coordinator.

I am planning to take CDEV-WPS and COOP-WEP course this Spring/Summer, will it still be delivered?

Yes! Both CDEV-WPS and COOP-WEP courses have been transitioned to fully online delivery. If you have specific questions please contact your program’s Employment Facilitator or Co-op & Internship Coordinator.

Can I still book an appointment for resume review, interview preparation, job search strategies, career exploration etc?

Yes! You can book appointments through our Co-op and Career Portal. The appointments will be conducted virtually through a method that best suits you.

If you have any questions please contact educationthatworks@camosun.ca.

Will there be any adjustments to the length and requirements of work-terms?

Co-op work-terms are normally 12 weeks of full-time, paid work totalling 420 hours in length, however during these difficult times we are flexible around this length and these requirements, and can discuss options on a case by case basis.

With regard to Internships, we recommend these work-terms total 300 hours, but are also flexible and can discuss options on a case by case basis.

If you have specific questions, please contact your program’s Employment Facilitator or Co-op & Internship Coordinator.

What if I start my Summer 2021 work-term and part way through my employer cancels it because of a resurgence of COVID-19?

Please immediately contact your program’s Employment Facilitator or Co-op & Internship Coordinator to discuss options. They can speak with your employer to discuss remote working options. If that’s not possible there is flexibility on how many hours of a work-term students have to complete to still be eligible to receive a co-op or internship designation.

Has co-op changed for International students?

If you are an international student, you may continue to complete co-op work terms in Canada and may also complete work terms in your home country. Follow the instructions of your local authorities and health officials. Keep informed of Government of Canada travel advisories.

If you are returning to Camosun from a work-term in your home please email Camosun International as soon as possible. They can work with you on your Quarantine PlanBC Self-Isolation Plan and ensure you have medical insurance coverage. Additionally Camosun College can issue letters of support to international students planning to travel to Canada.
