Camosun's Advanced Skills for Clean Energy and Efficient Buildings provide the skills for the high-performance building sector by providing short, relevant micro-credentials in clean energy, efficient building design and high-performance building construction.
These micro-credentials prepare you to implement CleanBC’s forward-thinking housing initiatives including net-zero energy home construction.
Opportunities
As a graduate, these micro-credentials will provide the skills and knowledge to enable you to create residential buildings that meet building standards of the future. These micro-credentials will allow you to implement CleanBC and the BC Energy Step Code's 2032 goals – in 2021.
Delivery
These Clean Energy and Efficient Buildings micro-credentials are offered primarily by distance on weekday evenings, allowing you to continue to work while upgrading your skills. Hands-on experience opportunities will be available with specific micro-credentials.
Curriculum & courses
Micro-credentials
Clean Energy: includes four micro-credentials developed with the help of Solar Photovoltaic specialists and may be taken individually or grouped towards a specialization.
- Photo Voltaic Design Specialization:
- Micro-credential in Introduction to Clean Energy (18 hours over three weeks)
- Micro-credential in Photovoltaics (30 hours over six weeks)
- Micro-credential in Designing Photovoltaic Systems (24 hours over four weeks)
- Photo Voltaic Installer Specialization:
- Micro-credential in Introduction to Clean Energy (18 hours over three weeks)
- Micro-credential in Photovoltaics (30 hours over six weeks)
- Micro-credential in Voltaic Array Installation (24 hours over four weeks)
Efficient Buildings: includes six micro-credentials developed with experts familiar with national building codes, the provincial BC Energy Step Code and Passive House building standards, and may be taken individually or grouped towards a specialization.
- Passive House Designer Specialization:
- Micro-credential in Passive House Design and Construction (30 hours over six weeks)
- Micro-credential in Understanding and Working with Passive House Planning Package (24 hours over four weeks)
- Micro-credential in Passive House Design / Consultancy – examination preparation (12 hours over two weeks)
- Passive House Tradesperson Specialization:
- Micro-credential in Introduction to Passive House High Performance Buildings (nine hours over two weeks)
- Micro-credential in Passive House Tradesperson - theory / practicum (12 + eight hours over four weeks)
- Micro-credential in Passive House Tradesperson - examination preparation (four hours over one week)
Specializations can be completed concurrently.
Participants who complete the micro-credentials in any three of these four specializations will receive a Clean Energy and Efficient Buildings certificate from Camosun College.
