Camosun expresses its sorrow and stands alongside the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc

Camosun College is horrified by the news that the remains of 215 children have been found in the grounds of the former Kamloops Residential School, which sat on the traditional territory of the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc. Our hearts go out to the families and communities who were and are directly affected by this news and by the original loss of their children. We are all affected. This affirms Camosun’s commitment to redressing the impact of our shared history. In memory of these children, Camosun flags on both campuses will be lowered.

Harj started his apprenticeship for an “Industrial Electrician” at Victoria Plywood having opportunities to work on motor control and troubleshooting industrial electrical equipment. He then took these skills to The Corporation of Saanich, doing design and installation on a SCADA system. The last position he had held before coming to Camosun, was as an electrical supervisor at Automation Systems Associates Ltd. ASA designed and assembled equipment for various high tech firms including Ballard Power Systems, Moli Energy, Cellex, and JDS Uniphase. At ASA, Harj was responsible for assembly, design, testing, troubleshooting and quality control of equipment. Through these various job opportunities, he has acquired experience in industrial electrical and power electronics. Harj has also gained good experience in the residential field through the part-time operation of his own company. Harj has worked at Camosun in the Electrical department since 2000.
