Janice Shewey joined the Humanities Department at Camosun College in 2011 after completing her MA in Hispanic Studies at the University of Victoria. Her research focused on the works of Baroque poet, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.

As a language instructor, Janice strives to spark curiosity and enthusiasm for Spanish in all its varieties. Her classes emphasize oral communication and cultural awareness through realistic content, diverse media and local field trips. Apart from teaching, Janice has also worked on language curriculum development at the College. She has participated in various other academic endeavours, including conferences, translations, guest lectures and worked as a research assistant for the Hispanic Baroque Project. Her most exciting recent project was planning and co-leading the 2019 Cuba Field School.
