Overview

The Accounting diploma can be completed over four academic terms on a full-time basis by taking six courses in the first term and five courses in each of the last three terms.

Career/Academic Advancement Opportunities

The Accounting option is designed to provide students with the background and knowledge to enter business or government in an accounting capacity. Students successfully completing this option can expect to be employed as accounting technicians or auditors as well as in related positions in the accounting field. Graduates of this option may wish to continue on to complete the BBA (Accounting) program, and continue further on to the CPA (Chartered Professional Accountants) program. Advanced transfer credit is given by the CPA.

At the completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Enter business or government in an accounting capacity with the background and knowledge from this program.
  • Satisfy some of the course requirements of the CPA (Chartered Professional Accountants) designation.

Note:


  • Student may use ENGL 150 or 160, in lieu of  ENGL 151 ENGL 161 , ENGL 163 , or ENGL 164  toward program completion.
  • Students may only use one of two or more courses with equivalent content and different names for credit towards completion of program credential.
  • Courses NOT acceptable as elective credit toward the Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting Major.
  • ​ Some additional courses are not acceptable as elective credit toward the diploma and degree. All electives should be chosen in consultation with the Department Chair or an Academic Advisor.
  • Credit to the accounting diploma and BBA may be obtained for only one of a pair or group of courses identified as having content that has significant overlap.  Examples are: BUS 143  and BUS 242; BUS 290H and BUS 290 ; MATH 100  and MATH 108 ; MATH 105, and MATH 107 , and MATH 115 ; STAT 116  and BUS 230 ; MATH 126  and MATH 222; SPMA 300  and BUS 214 ; SFL 310  and PHIL 330 ; BSYS 494 and BUS 220 . There may be other examples. Please consult with the Department Chair or Academic Advisor for more information.

Cooperative Education


Note:

A student who does not successfully complete the two (2) Cooperative Work Experience courses will not qualify for the Cooperative Education Designation; however the student will qualify for the Internship Designation if they have successfully completed a minimum of one (1) Cooperative Work Experience Course.

Program Participation Requirements


  • Many first year Business courses require Math as a prerequisite (e.g. “C” in Pre-calculus 11, Foundations of Math 11, MATH 073 , MATH 077 , MATH 137, or “C+” in MATH 072 MATH 075 , or MATH 135).  Students may enter this program without Math but please note, students must complete one of the Math courses as listed above or successfully complete Camosun’s Math assessment in or before their first semester of study.
