Sustainability

Our Commitment

Camosun plays a key role in developing an engaged, civic-minded, educated society. We do this through economic development, jobs and skills training, cultural and social involvement, and an awareness of our impact on the environment.

Sustainability Plan 2018-2020

We are currently updating our Sustainability Plan 2018-2020. Surveys in Fall 2017, and face-to-face conversations in January will help refine Camosun’s sustainability priorities. If you are interested in participating further or would like more information, please contact bremnerm@camosun.bc.ca

The Office of Sustainability has recently embarked on process to refresh its Sustainability Plan. As our current 2014-2017 plan winds down, an opportunity presents itself to greater align with College’s new Strategic Plan 2016-2021 and it principal mandate, reflected in the following corner posts:

  1. The Student Experience
  2. Supporting People in an Engaged Community
  3. Creativity & Innovation
  4. Sustainability for the Environment & Society:

Camosun plays a key role in developing an engaged, civic-minded, educated society. We do this through economic development, jobs and skills training, cultural and social involvement, and an awareness of our impact on the environment.

Goal: Provide leadership and support on key social, environmental, and economic issues impacting the college.

Progress to date

  • Sustainability Council (SC) Reactivation – comprised of “sustainability champions”, representing faculty, student and staff from different departments, the mandate of the SC is facilitating creativity, collaboration and support for all who are interested in furthering sustainability at Camosun.
  • A Student Co-Op position has been created for sustainability engagement. Student participation is a core element of student experience, life-changing learning, innovation, and human well-being. Our Co-op student is charged with the task of further engaging students in sustainability at Camosun.
  • A College-wide sustainability survey and consultation process has been launched to inform and assist in refreshing Camosun’s Sustainability Plan. We encourage you to participate and to help advance, support, and advocate for sustainable practices and action – College-wide and within our communities.
