Sustainability Plan Refresh – Workshops & Café

Camosun is refreshing its Sustainability Plan and we want to hear from you!


Moving forward from the Sustainability Survey last semester, Camosun has identified some key priorities to focus on in the next Sustainability Plan.

Join us and share your ideas for moving forward.

Please download and review the workshop brief (linked below) before attending.

Note All workshops will be followed by a 1 hour “Open House” to allow participants to engage in follow up dialogue and peruse the other topics areas via posters.

Food and refreshments will be provided. Please bring your own mug for beverages.

Monday, February 5, 2018 – Lansdowne

10-11am Na'tsa'maht Elder blessing ceremony
Local Elder Bernadine Mawson, will bless the next stage of journey the college is taking to advance in its sustainability efforts. Bernadine will share some of the incredible wisdom indigenous people have in relationship to the environment, their deep respect for the land, the community and each other.
Additional Camosun Express service will be provided
Library Learning Commons (LLC), Rm 151 Food Sustainability Innovation Workshop
The topic of food touches us all on a personal level. This workshop will explore food sustainability at Camosun, and beyond—from dining services, to local and affordable options, to food waste. We'll discuss the variety of issues (and exciting opportunities) affecting the complex questions surrounding "food sustainability."

4-5pm LLC 151 Waste & Recycling Sustainability Innovation Workshop
What would a world without waste look like? This sustainability workshop will look at existing opportunities within our waste management model, as well as creative ways to reduce waste at the outset and enhance recycling efforts. We will also explore education and awareness building, both on campus and at home.

Transportation Sustainability Innovation Workshop
It seems like everywhere you look, transportation issues are plaguing the region. What can Camosun do to contribute to easier, healthier transportation choices? How can we encourage active transportation to campus and reduce the use of single occupancy vehicles? We will also explore some of the challenges affecting transportation to/from Interurban.

11:30am-12:30pm Helmet Huber Annex Sustainability Open House
4-5pm Helmet Huber Annex Energy Sustainability Innovation Workshop
The topic of energy is a significant interest to Camosun, operationally and at a educational level. This workshop will explore efforts to reduce emissions and emerging opportunities in renewable energy. We will also touch on ways we can increase our resilience to climate change issues, on campus and regionally.

A relaxed “open house” event where students and staff can gather, enjoy warm drinks and snacks, find out more about the topic areas, and provide ideas or feedback about Camosun's sustainability priorities and actions.
