Brent Hall

Brent Hall

As a Certified Athletic Therapist and a Certified Exercise Physiologist, Brent is passionate about working with people who value their body and are willing to overcome their limitations and work toward a high level of performance. To him, performance means being able to do what you love and do it well.

In addition to working at Camosun College Brent works as an athletic therapist in a clinical setting, helping active people overcome injuries. He works with a variety of amateur sports programs in Victoria; among them are the Camosun College Men's Volleyball Team and the Volleyball Canada Centre of Excellence national team development program. He has also worked with the Canadian Men's Volleyball Team, and the BC Lions Football Team.

Brent believes his greatest power is the ability to educate his clients. He endeavours to give each client a thorough understanding of how to achieve their goals and a plan to do so.

Danny Harris

Danny was born in Victoria BC, and has been in the fitness industry for five years helping people achieve their personal fitness goals. He is very passionate about helping people improve their health!

His education and professional background has provided him with extensive knowledge and experience. Danny is a certified personal trainer, has a degree in Recreation & Health, and has experience working as a fitness trainer for the Canadian Forces. In addition, Danny has trained at the Pacific Institute of Sports Excellence and has been a consultant to various television shows. Through these opportunities he has been able to excel in a broad range of fitness disciplines.

Danny believes first and foremost exercise should be safe. A close second is that exercise should bring results, and last but certainly not least; exercise should be fun... well... fun-ish. "The most common reasons for people to give up on exercising are injury, lack of results, and boring workouts."

Jenna Howe

Originally from Ontario, Jenna relocated to Victoria in 2011 and joined the Camosun Fitness & Recreation team shortly thereafter. After years of working with Police Foundations students and teaching a variety of fitness classes, Jenna's primary focus is physical rehabilitation and concussion therapy. Currently, you can find Jenna personal training and teaching fitness classes at Camosun and working in private practice providing chronic pain, concussion, and injury rehabilitation within the Greater Victoria area.

Meghan Kelly

Meghan was born and raised in Nova Scotia where she completed her Bachelor in Human Kinetics at Saint Francis Xavier University. During her time there she was a university athlete on the women's soccer team. Her adventurous personality led her to move to the west coast where she worked for the Canadian Forces as a Sports and Fitness Instructor for 8 years. In 2017 Meghan completed her diploma for Massage Therapy after wanting to learn more about injury-prevention, rehabilitation and hands on therapeutic body work.

Meghan has a very holistic approach to her training and work. As a Certified Yoga Instructor she incorporates the importance of being mindful and present with your training while supporting you to be the best version of yourself. She has an authentic ability to meet you where you are at to achieve your health and wellness goals.

Andrew Lai

Andrew was born and raised in Victoria, BC. He loved playing sports while growing up, and still enjoys a pick up game here and there. What got Andrew into personal training was his love for sport. He knew he had to start lifting weights to overcome injuries and to compete. As he progressed from different personal trainers and coaches, he decided to learn proper lifting himself. He graduated with a Diploma in Exercise & Wellness and is now certified by the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology as a Certified Personal Trainer. He specializes in building strength and fixing poor posture. He has worked with a wide range of individuals including wheelchair athletes, children, youth, elderly, and everything in between. He usually works Saturdays but you may seem him lifting weights and filling shifts throughout the week! If you have questions please ask him as he will always try to help or will refer you to the right place.

Alan Poole

Alan Poole

Alan has been a jock since learning to walk more than a half century ago. Over the years he's added running, cycling, hockey, weight training, and anything with a ball or that you could bet on to his repertoire of activities. He has a Master's Degree in Leadership and Training and a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education.

As well, Alan has a variety of certifications related to training, nutrition, and communication. Alan began his fitness and nutrition career 35 years ago and for the past 14 has been part of the Camosun team. He's particularly proud of his many years of work as strength and conditioning coach for the Chargers Athletics program and his time developing the Police Fit program to prepare Criminal Justice students for the physical demands of police work.  Nowadays, you can find Alan at the fitness centre on the Interurban Campus just waiting to help you meet your health and fitness goals.

Jared Sparrow

Jared Sparrow

Born and raised in Victoria, Jared grew up competing in a wide variety of sports including soccer, basketball, baseball, swimming and track & field.  This passion for athletics led him into the field of fitness.  Jared has been a personal trainer for over 10 years and recently became certified as a strength and conditioning specialist.  He enjoys helping everyone achieve their fitness goals from individuals hoping to improve their general fitness and activities of daily living to elite athletes.

Jared’s training philosophy is helping people move and feel better while developing functional strength.  He has implemented strength and conditioning programs for sports teams and clubs such as the UVIC Vikes Track and Rowing teams and Peterec’s MMA and Kickboxing athletes.

Joel has been professionally involved in fitness for over 12 years.Helping others achieve their fitness goals has motivated him into the exciting field of exercise and health. Joel is a YM-YWCA Certified Strength/Personal Trainer. He is also a health educational instructor and Third Age Group Fitness Leader.

Joel is a dedicated professional with a track record of exceeding goals and standards. He has exceptional interpersonal skills, and works well with diverse individuals. He offers a high level of dependability and enthusiasm, and brings health and fitness to new levels to those around him.

Deanna Whiteley

Deanna was born and raised in Victoria, BC. Growing up she played many years of fastball, basketball and track sports. Her passion for sports, health and helping people led her into personal training in 2004. She took an interest in Olympic Lifting and CrossFit in 2006. This shifted her whole perspective of health fitness and drove her passion of helping people achieve goals they never thought possible. She has developed a keen eye for coaching technique and correcting movement. Deanna’s passion for health and fitness continues to aspire.

Laura Benson

Laura Benson

A certified Hatha Yoga Teacher (Moksana Yoga Centre, Victoria, BC) and member of the Hatha Yoga Association of Victoria, Laura began her yoga journey in 1999. Through the years it has helped her gain connection between mind, body and spirit. She believes yoga is a whole-being wellness tradition that develops personal growth through the yogic principles.

As a class guide, Laura honours the teacher in everyone and encourages a safe, supportive and accepting environment. She weaves yogic philosophy into the practice, taking it beyond the physical while inviting curiosity in movement, alignment and sensations. Laura provides modifications for all body types and skill levels while encouraging a gentle approach to strengthen the body and focus the mind.

Laura is focused on sharing the benefits of this ancient science to cultivate mindfulness, awareness and overall wellbeing, in order for these benefits to follow the practitioner into every aspect of their life.

Sofia Harrington

Sofia Harrington

Sophia has been working as a Choreographer and dance teacher for the past 9 years. She has created multiple award winning works of choreography for various events, competitions and studios over the years. She has also Choreographed for feature films with her latest work being done for the Movie "Once Upon A Prince" which was released in April of 2018. She is currently working on another movie that is set for release in June of 2019.  Her experience involves years of intensive training in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, And Contemporary/modern, as well as training in ballroom, Latin, Bollywood, African, acrobatics, and breakdance. Sophia believes in spreading the joy of dance to as many people as possible in a fun, inclusive, and welcoming environment.

Jenna Howe

Jenna Howe

After graduating from George Brown Colleges' Fitness and Lifestyle Management Program in 1995 Jenna has been educating and training in many areas of fitness and health. While personal training in private practice, Jenna also taught for the Police Foundations Program at Fleming College for several years. During her time at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre, Jenna brought Zumba Fitness to the city, developed Cancer Recovery Programs and worked with individuals both in and out of the pool for rehabilitative purposes.

Jenna has since has received her degree in Psychology and completed the Yoga Therapy program at Pacific Rim College. When she isn't personal training, Jenna teaches Zumba, Groove, and Bellyfit classes along with provides therapeutic services for sports injuries, postural imbalances and general health and well-being.

Rosemary Mason

Rosemary Mason

After retiring from teaching Biology at Camosun College, I have begun a new career teaching Essentrics/Classical Stretch. I found Classical Stretch at 50 when I was looking for a stretch and strength program that made me feel good. In the last 5 years, I have received the highest level of Essentrics Certification and bring my joy of teaching and love of movement to my classes. This new path is so rewarding as I watch people become stronger, straighter, pain free and get that bounce back in their step.

Angelina McNamee

Angelina McNamee

Angelina came back to Yoga in the early nineties after having been introduced to it as a child. She was certified in Sivananda Yoga in India and Brasil, and has been to Argentina on various occasions to study Indra Devi Yoga. She has been teaching Yoga and Pilates mat classes on Vancouver Island since the year 2000 and has organized several Yoga workshops and participated in numerous orhers. Her passion for travel and love of arts and culture has lead her to visit Yoga centres worldwide, study Thai Yoga and Massage, and complete a Master's degree in Teaching Arts. She is familiar with many different styles of Yoga and loves to share her knowledge with others on the path. In her spare time, Angelina enjoys time spent gardening, listening to music, or riding her bicycle.

Michelle Mitschrich

Michelle Mitschrich Employee Yoga

Michelle has been teaching yoga and mindfulness for 15 years. She weaves her passion for movement, breath, and self connection into classes, leaving you feeling balanced and refreshed. Michelle also creates classes that honour the natural alignment of the spine, and guides classes in a flow that help to release stress of everyday life.

John Ricker

John Ricker

John Ricker began a simple meditation practice many years ago with the School of Philosophy in Wellington, NZ and over the years studied yoga and meditation in Canada, South America and India. He became a teacher of meditation and kundalini yoga in 1994.

John suggests taking just a few minutes a day for meditation, and if you do it every single day for about 6 months the results will astonish you, and everyone you know.

John is a member of the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association and a Registered Clinical Counsellor in BC, with a Masters degree in family systems counselling from Bastyr University in Seattle. He also attended the Canadian Acupressure College in Victoria and became a registered Jin Shin Do acupressure practitioner.

Kumi Smith

Kumi's been involved in fitness for many years and started teaching back in 2003 while in her home country, Japan. For the last year she has taught hip hop and boot camp classes for Camosun Recreation. Kumi has already become a favourite with her class participants. She brings to her classes great energy, warmth and a true passion for teaching.

Meghan Lambeth Recreation & Fitness Coordinator

Meghan has spent the past 30 years working in the fitness business. It is a career born out of a true love of fitness and the benefits of a healthy life style. Over this time she has worked as a personal trainer, group instructor, business owner of rehabilitation clinic, and administrator in fitness clubs and for the last number of years as Coordinator of Rec & Fitness at Camosun College.

Meghan's greatest job satisfaction comes playing a part in helping others achieve their fitness goals and realizing a healthier life style.
