DEEP 1 (Diabetes Exercise and Education Program)

Exercise and wellness students have teamed up with Exercise is Medicine Canada to create a research based exercise and education program for individuals diagnosed with pre-diabetes, type I diabetes, type II diabetes as well as those at high risk for developing diabetes. The program is designed to help clients be active in a supervised environment, while learning exercise techniques to help manage health and reduce complications. Each session consists of an educational component in combination with an exercise circuit. This balanced, researched based program is designed to ensure client success! Program includes an interactive exercise log as well as an educational booklet.

Learn to Nordic Pole Walk

A total body workout in the time it takes to walk, NO SWEAT! In this 4-week course, learn the technique of Nordic pole walking (summer training for crosscountry skiers) and improve your total body fitness, conveniently. Borrow poles for the first class, and then buy your own poles from the instructor ($91). Prescription for health with NPW is 3 x 30 minutes per week. By the end of 4 weeks you will experience de-stressed neck/shoulders, improved posture, increased mental energy, and it may create lower LDL/BP, steadier insulin, and smaller pant size. Withdrawal rebate of $50 after first session only.

Mid Day Hatha Yoga

The practice of Asana (posture) with the guidance of the breath brings deep awareness of Self. In this class we will practice the postures with attention to proper alignment and safe joint positioning. We use breath to bring aware­ness and self-observation to your yogic being.

Morning Yoga

Start your morning with some movement and give the middle of your week a boost of energy! In this feel-good Flow class we'll link breath and movement as we wake up our body and mind, and strengthen, tone, and work out any stiffness or tension. Suitable for all levels; modifications and props are provided and encouraged to help students access the poses safely and effectively.

Pilates

Pilates is a system of intelligent and functional movement designed to create optimal health and longevity. Though precise and controlled movements integrated with mindful breath the body is strengthened and balanced from the inside out. In this class we will move through both classical and contemporary exercises. The movements will be taught progressively making the class accessible to a wide range athletic capability from just starting out to athletes of all disciplines.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa flow is a series of yoga poses to help you move with ease, to increase coordination, balance and range of motion. In this class we will work on that connection between body and mind. Utilizing breath to help with focus, attention and a break from overstimulation. To move well, it is important to learn to connect with core, integrate patterns of movement and optimize joint health. Most importantly, a fun activity with good music appreciating body and breathe.

Yoga Sitting Remedy

A gentle, therapeutic class that releases tension in the hips, neck, and shoulders, as well as building strength in the back and opening the chest to help counteract the effects of sitting. This class is suitable for all levels. Postures are used to target areas that may build up tension or weakness due to sitting for long periods of time. We will use breath and body awareness to help reduce stress and calm your mind.

Zumba

This popular fitness dance class involves dance, aerobic and resistance training. Zumba choreography incorporates Hip Hop, Samba, Salsa, Meringue, Mambo, martial arts and some Bollywood moves. No dance experience required.
