Chargers Golf Team tied for 9th after day one at the CCAA National Championships
After day one at the PING Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf Championship in Quebec City, the Camosun Chargers Men's Golf team find themselves sitting in 9th place with a first round score of 302. They trail the tournament leader's University of the Fraser Valley and Humber College (283) by 14 strokes.
In the individual standings, Chargers golfer Brett De Vries is five strokes out of first (73). Teammates Jarret Callbeck (75), Grant Maskiewich (76) and Michael Flegel (78) rounded out the 302 team score after 18 holes.
At the CCAA Awards banquet held on Tuesday night, Jarret Callbeck was recognized as a CCAA 2013 All Canadian. This is the second consecutive honor for Callebeck who earned a silver medal in the PACWEST individual standing as well as a silver medal in the PACWEST team competition.
Chargers Golf Team move up to 5th after day two at the CCAA National Championships
The Chargers men's golf team moved up four places to 5th after day two at the PING Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf Championship in Quebec City. The Chargers had a strong day scoring 291 for a two day total of 593. However, they still find themselves 20 strokes behind tournament leader's University of the Fraser Valley (573).
"The guys are in good spirits heading into tomorrow's final round and are still in contention for a medal" stated Charger head coach John Randle.
In the individual standings, Chargers CCAA 2013 All Canadian Jarret Callbeck moved up the leaders' board to a tie for ninth in the overall standings. Callbeck shot a two under par 70 for a two day total of 145. Georgian College Colton Kalkanis (136) leads the pack with back to back 68's. Chargers Grant Maskiewich (150) and Michael Flegel (150) are both tied in 23rd and Brady Stead (154) is in 39th round out the scoring for Camosun.
Chargers Golf Team Captures Bronze at 2013 PING CCAA Nationals!
The Camosun Chargers men’s golf team came from behind to capture the bronze medal at the 2013 PING CCAA Golf National Championship at the Royal Quebec Golf Club, Quebec City.
The Chargers team scored the lowest round of the day finishing with 288 for a three day championship total of 881. The gold medal went to University of the Fraser Valley (863) and sliver to Humber College (875).
CCAA All Canadian Jarred Callbeck led the Chargers scoring a two under par 70, which included three birdies and only one bogey on the last day of the championships. Overall, Callbeck finished sixth on the leaderboard at 215. Colton Kalkanis of Georgian College was the top golfer at 201, eleven strokes ahead of silver medalist Aoron Pauls (211) Fraser Valley University.
“I am so proud of the guys for how they played all year, coming back from a big deficit in conference play and now to fight back at nationals to win a medal after a tough first round is tremendous,” stated Chargers head coach John Randle. “They are a great group of guys who never got down and didn't give up. I am very happy for them and proud to be a part of the Chargers program!”
Rounding out the scoring for the Chargers were Grant Maskiewich 11th (220), Michael Flegel 22nd (224), Brett De Vires 36th (230) and
Brady Stead 45th (232).
