Camosun Chargers at Columbia Bible College Bearcats

Abbotsford, January 11, 2014

Lachlan Ross and Aija Salvador bring it

mbb-jan15The Chargers Women looked to build on momentum generated from the Annual Holiday tournament as they traveled to the Lower Mainland this past Friday and Saturday to take on the #7 ranked Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) Eagles and #8 ranked Columbia Bible College (CBC) Bearcats. A strong post presence and dominant guard play from Aija Salvador helped the Chargers come away with a 56-42 win on Friday and 69-49 victory on Saturday. The women are rolling on wins and need to keep it going in a tight PACWEST division.

The Chargers Men kept their game sharp over the break by travelling to Washington State for the annual Moses Lake Tournament. Coach Scot Cuachon said, “We played very good teams like Portland College and Big Bend Community College, and although we lost games due to lack of depth, we were able to grow and improve in areas that have been troubling us all season.” Cuachon adds, “The goal is to implement what we learned into upcoming games.”

It didn’t take long to see the rewards of the trip as the Chargers beat KPU 81-79 on Friday night. On paper it looks like a two point win, but it was so much more. Lachlan Ross tipped in the game winner with 0.1 seconds left to send the Chargers bench into a tizzy. Making it extra special for Lachlan, his parents made the trip from Australia to watch him play. A picture of Lachlan with family after the game can be seen below.

Saturday, the men revenged an earlier season loss to the Bearcats, beating them 84-77. Certainly, it’s the start of the second half both teams were looking for. The men’s and women’s teams stay on the road this Friday and Saturday with trips to Capilano and Quest respectively.
