Chargers rally to help Canadian Armed Forces team prep for World Military Games
Release Date: June 27, 2019
The Camosun Chargers Men's Volleyball team had the great fortune to scrimmage with the Canadian Armed Forces team (CISM) as part of a training camp held in Victoria, June 22.
The CISM team is preparing for the seventh World Military Games that will be held in Wuhan, China on October 18-27. The powerful squad is made up of active members of the military from around Canada, and features former University and professional volleyball athletes.
The scrimmage featured some amazing rallies over the course of five competitive sets. Two players who will join the Chargers in the fall from high school (Kristofer La Guardia and Gerry Peng) had a chance to taste their first post-secondary action alongside former Charger and current member of the military James Poirier, as well as former Charger and current Assistant Coach Andy Inglis.
“The CISM team will hold one more training camp in early September in Comox and will travel south for a final scrimmage against us as part of their fine tuning for the October event,” said Camosun Chargers Head Coach Charles Parkinson. “More information will follow as dates are finalized but it is tentatively set for Monday, September 9.”
