Chargers women’s volleyball poised to play their best yet

Media Release
Release date: November 8, 2018

Following three straight weeks of competition and last week’s bye, the Chargers Women’s Volleyball team is ready to return to the PACWEST stage which will be set at PISE this weekend as Camosun plays host to the Capilano Blues from North Vancouver.

Both teams are six matches into the season and stand evenly with three wins and three losses apiece.

“After taking some time to rest and recover during our bye week the Chargers are itching to get on the court again to compete,” says Camosun Head Coach Brent Hall. “Capilano has a new look this year, with a new head coach, so it's hard to know exactly what to expect from them. It will be a good test for our team to see how quickly they can adapt to whatever strategies they face.”

Several Camosun Women’s Volleyball student-athletes have made an impact on the league, starting with fifh-year libero Mychaela Roelants (AD Arts) who has dominated the conference in digs for the past three weeks, averaging 3.70 digs per set. Additional Chargers listed on the PACWEST’s Top 15 performers list include:

Lauren Montgomery-Stinson #13 in Blocks (0.29/S)
Rayelle Zacharuk   #4 in Kills (2.63/S); #4 in Aces (0.63/S); #6 Total Offensive Stats (3.36/S)
Megan Ireland  #14 in Kills (1.83/S) and #14 in Total Offensive Stats (2.44/S)
Sydney Svicenec     #15 in Kills (1.69/S)
Laura Greene   #7 in Aces (0.58/S)

“We've been working hard and looking good in training,” states Coach Hall. “We're poised to play our best volleyball yet this weekend!”

The Chargers and Blues hit the court this Friday and Saturday at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence.
