Camosun Chargers men’s golf team earns PACWEST bronze

Media Release
Release date: October 11, 2017

It wasn’t the 3-peat championship finish fans had hoped for, but the Camosun College Chargers Men’s Golf team pulled through a tough season to bring home bronze and the program’s 15th PACWEST podium finish.

“A third place finish with our young team was a great result,” stated Chargers Men’s Golf Head Coach John Randle. “I am really looking forward to next year and our continued growth as we look to reclaim our conference championship.”

After four tournaments, the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades captured gold with a cumulative score of 2317. The UBC Okanagan Heat took silver with 2336 while Camosun edged out Island rivals, the VIU Mariners by four strokes to win bronze (CAM 2413; VIU 2417). Langara finished fifth (2497) and Douglas was sixth with 2534.

The top four PACWEST season finishers for Camosun are as follows:

As the PACWEST gold and silver medalists, Fraser Valley and UBC-O will advance to the CCAA National Golf Championships hosted by Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario October 17-20.

Despite missing a shot at a national title (the first time in eight years that the Chargers will not be competing) Coach Randle is satisfied with the outcome of the season.

“I am very proud of our team,” commented Coach Randle. “We are in a bit of transition from all the strong teams we have had in the past and the guys really bought in to how we approach the game and we showed some great improvement over the season. We had our best round of the year on the final day to move into a medal position and it shows how bright our future is. Big credit goes to our Assistant Coach, Brady Stead, as he really helped the squad understand what it takes to play their best golf.”
