Alex Wolf named Athlete of the Week
January 29, 2014
The Camosun Chargers made the long trek to Cranbrook, BC this past weekend and secured two wins against a powerful College of the Rockies team.
The Avalanche were coming off asweep as they defeated the UFVCascades last week to help gain ground on securing the last playoff spot. With a surging COTR squad looking to distance themselves from the 7th place Cascades, the Chargers were expecting a strong performance from the home team.
On Friday the Chargers went the distance in a two and a half hour, 5 set match that included a 37-35 set 4 marathon. Instrumental in the win for Camosun was 4th year left side player Alex Wolf. Wolf put together a complete match which included 2 service aces, 10 attack points, 1 block and 5 digs. In addition, he was the best passer for the Island squad, delivering a 2.36 average on more than 25 passes. But even more important was the leadership demonstrated by Wolf, especially in challenging situations.
On Saturday, Camosun dropped the first set to the scrappy Avalanche but bounced back to win the next three and the match 3-1. Wolf had a huge match, notching 20 kills, 1 block and 5 digs. Again, he led the Chargers in the passing department with a 2.46 average on almost 30 serves.
This was the first sweep by Camosun since early in the season and the play of Alex Wolf was a big factor in the Chargers victory.
