Camosun Chargers PACWEST Basketball Awards

February 26, 2014

The Camosun Chargers men's and women's basketball teams have many reasons to celebrate as they head to the PACWEST Provincials in New Westminster this Thursday to Saturday. After a season that saw both teams make the playoffs, the PACWEST announced players on both teams have been awarded PACWEST All-Star and All-Rookie Team selections.

Women's Basketball

Chargers third-year shooting guard Aija Salvador (Oak Bay) has been selected as a PACWEST 1st Team All-Star for the first time in her career. Her moment of glory was a 27-point game in a win February 21st against the previously undefeated (20-0) VIU Mariners, earning her Athlete of the Week. Aija has a knack for getting to the hoop, combined with a silky trigger from behind the three-point line. She finished the season ranked 3rd in the PACWEST with 15.3 points per game.

Chargers third-year point guard Ella Goldschmid (Mount Doug) was selected as a PACWEST 2nd Team All-Star for the second consecutive season. Ella finished the season averaging just over 11 points a game, good for 10th in the PACWEST. She is known by teammates as the glue that holds the team together.

Fourth-year wing/post Elyse Matthews (Stelly's) was also selected as a PACWEST 2nd Team All Star. Elyse finished 3rd in the PACWEST with 8.81 rebounds per game, and 8th in scoring averaging 11.24 per game. This is the second time Elyse has made the All-Star team as a Charger.

Rounding out the selections, Emma Cunningham (Spectrum) was named to the PACWEST All-Rookie team. Emma can start, or come off the bench to provide a scoring punch. She made countless clutch three-point shots for the Chargers down the stretch.

Men's Basketball

For the first time in his three-year Camosun career, Trevor Scheurmann (Oak Park) made a PACWEST All-Star team. This year, he did it in style, as he was named a Men's 1st Team All-Star. Trevor is a shut-down defender, efficient scorer, and smart passer out of the post. He finished 9th in the PACWEST in rebounds averaging 6.38 per game, and 10th in scoring with a 15.67 average.
