1. How do I make an appointment?
- Try to schedule your appointment well ahead of the time you need it because the Writing Centre can get very busy.
- Students may schedule:
- One 30 minute appointment per week
- If you are also making appointments at the English Help Centre (EHC) you may use ONE of their two per week allowable appointments at the Writing Centre. However, you may not book two appointments at the EHC and a third one at the Writing Centre during a one week period.
At Lansdowne Campus
- You may make an appointment:
- In person : Sign up at the Lansdowne Library Learning Commons, room 144. Sign-up sheets are posted on the podium up to two weeks in advance.
- By phone : 250–370–3491
- As a drop in : Appointments are also available on a first come, first served basis. If we are free, we will see you right away. Otherwise, you are welcome to sit down, relax, study, and wait for a cancellation.
At Interurban Campus
- If you are a student at Interurban and cannot make it to Lansdowne to use the Writing Centre, please call 250–370–3491 or email us at writingcentre@camosun.bc.ca to set up a distance appointment to be conducted by phone. You must email your paper to the Writing Centre in advance.

2. What if I need to cancel?
- The Writing Centre has a waiting list for appointments. If you cannot keep an appointment, please cancel by phone at least 24 hours in advance, or cross your name off the schedule so that we can give your appointment to another student anxiously waiting for writing help. Your consideration will be appreciated!
- Students who no-show or fail to cancel 24 hours in advance for more than two appointments will be allowed drop-in appointments only for the remainder of the semester. At the beginning of the next semester, students will again be welcome to book appointments.

3. What will Writing Consultants not do?
- Writing Consultants are not editors, nor are they proofreaders. We will not be able to find and correct every error in your writing. We will, however, look for persistent types of problems. We will try to show you how you can learn to solve your writing problems and become your own best proofreader.
- Writing Consultants are not content experts. We cannot evaluate the quality or accuracy of your content or research. Accuracy and validity of information is always your responsibility.
- Writing Consultants can't take the place of your instructors. Always consult with your instructor if you have concerns about assignment guidelines or grading. We will never discuss the grade your paper may receive. Writing Consultants are, however, always happy to work through a graded paper with you in order to help you better understand your instructor's comments.

4. How can I most benefit from my sessions?
- Book well in advance of your due date. Your session will be of little help when your writing assignment is due the next day (or in a few hours!).
- Schedule two appointments for longer papers or for more serious writing concerns.
- Bring a legible (preferably typed) copy of
your work.
- Bring a copy of your instructor's assignment guidelines and
any other course material that may be helpful.
- Bring a focus for your
session (for example, getting started, developing a thesis statement, sentence
structure, etc.).
- Allow plenty of time afterwards
to work on strategies for improvements.
- Come back regularly to work on your writing
skills across a range of college writing assignments.
