It is a borrower's responsibility to return material on time and in the same condition as it was when borrowed. To receive courtesy notices about overdue items, make sure library staff have your current email and mailing addresses. All borrowers will be charged the full replacement cost of an item and a processing fee for all lost, not returned, or damaged material.

Students will not be able to register for classes or receive marks once library charges exceed $35.00. An appeal process for fees and other charges levied by the library is available. Direct questions regarding fines and other charges to library staff in person or by email to library@camosun.bc.ca. Staff will provide details of the appeal process upon request.
A free Community Borrower card is available to those who reside in the area south of the summit of the Malahat (and Gulf Islands that are south of that line). A card will be issued upon presentation of appropriate identification with address verification. Cards are valid until August 31st of the current school year. Community borrowers are subject to restrictions on what they may borrow and are limited to 10 items. Remote access to electronic resources is not available for community borrowers.
Books, magazines, journals and 3 day videos may be renewed to extend a loan. Two renewals are allowed, as long as no holds have been placed on the item. Borrowers can renew items by using the "My Account" feature of the library's online catalogue.
A hold feature is also available from the library's online catalogue. Holds can be placed to bring items in from the other campus or to be next in line for items out on loan. To renew and item or place a hold you will be prompted to provide your student or staff number (Cxxxxxxxx) and a PIN. Student PINs are set at birth date (MMDDYY). Faculty and staff are assigned a PIN. To determine what your PIN is, use the Forgot Your Password feature, or contact library staff in person, by phone or email.
To borrow directly from other libraries in the area, you must become a registered borrower at that library. Contact the library you wish to borrow from to confirm identification requirements and what limitations to service may be in place.

The Library's interlibrary loan (ILL) service requests books and journal articles from other libraries.
To request an interlibrary loan:
You are limited to ten (10) ILL requests per semester. The turnaround time from request to delivery is approximately 3-7 days from BC libraries. You will be notified by phone or email when your item has arrived.
Most libraries have an online catalogue of their holdings. Some major catalogues include:
The Camosun Library provides space, materials and assistance to students, faculty, staff and the public to pursue their work and studies in a positive and productive learning environment in which all persons treat each other with respect and courtesy. The library seeks to maintain a physical environment that is appealing, inviting and is conducive to learning.
To preserve the library's unique campus environment the following behaviour guidelines must be observed by all users.
The need for library users to be in touch with family, friends and colleagues is balanced with the recognition that the library is a place for study, research and contemplation and noise must be kept at reasonable levels.
In consideration of others, users are asked to set ringers to silent or vibrate when entering the library. Brief calls, which do not disturb others, may be taken. All outgoing calls and extended calls must be taken in the enclosed area on the second floor mezzanine (Lansdowne), the booked group study rooms, or outside the library.
Texting and other non-verbal uses of the cell phone are acceptable.
Headphones must be used for all audio playback in the library. Volume must be set so sound is inaudible to others.
Because the library encourages students, faculty and staff to work together collaboratively, quiet conversation is acceptable. Conversations may be held in group study areas, at the Learning Commons computers, and in areas near service desks. Study carrels are reserved for quiet individual work. Project rooms can be booked for group work (currently unavailable at Lansdowne during renovations).
Loud conversations, offensive language, and rowdy or disruptive behaviour are prohibited in all library spaces.
To ensure the protection and preservation of library materials, equipment and furnishings and to provide a comfortable and appealing environment for all, the library permits users to consume acceptable food and drink. Drinks in spill-proof, covered containers and snack foods that do not disturb others are acceptable. Drinks in open containers and food that may disturb others (hot meals, messy, smelly, noisy packaging, food that is known to cause allergic reactions) are not acceptable.
Library staff determine which food and drink are acceptable.
All recyclables and waste must be disposed of in the proper receptacles.
Users should be considerate of those waiting for workstations during busy times. Library staff may request users who have been using a computer for a long time to move to allow someone waiting access. Users should not leave workstations unattended for extended periods of time; personal belongings may be removed by library staff from an unattended computer.
Computers are used according to the college's acceptable use policy.
Library users who are disturbed by the conversations or activities of those around them are encouraged to ask the offenders to stop. If the behaviour continues, library staff should be informed.
Library staff are empowered to ensure these behaviour guidelines are upheld. Users unwilling to follow these guidelines will be asked to leave the library. Repeated or serious infractions of these guidelines will be reported to College security and the Chief Librarian.
The following College Policies must be adhered to:
