Role in the College
The Child Care centers provide a setting in which students from various programs of Camosun can learn through observation, interview, or supervised practicum. In an effort to promote community partnerships, our centers also provide learning opportunities to individuals from post-secondary institutions and other Early Childhood Centers. Individual placements are coordinated through the Child Care Services Manager.
Our staff
Our staff is committed to providing best practice child care services, which offer high quality care to all our children and their respective families. This includes having open communication with you on a daily basis to discuss your child’s needs/progress, the program, and our policies regarding guidance, health and safety.
More than half of the staff at Child Care Services have been working in the field of Early Childhood Education for 10 years or more. Our Infant and Toddler Centres operate with a 1:4 ratio (1 educator to 4 children) whereas our Preschool Centres operate based on a 1:8 ratio. Each centre has full and part-time staff members that are supervised by a Sr. Educator. Our Sr. Educators not only supervise the staff and the operations of the centre, but they also work directly with the children and the families. All Child Care Services’ educators are licensed by the ECE Registry in British Columbia. Requirements include an Early Childhood Education Certificate or Diploma, First Aid Certificate, and a Criminal Record Check.
