In order to comply with government licensing regulations and to provide the best care for your child, there are many policies that you will become familiar with once you have accepted a space in our child care centres. Listed below are some key policies to help you better understand our standards of practice.
Child care centres are secured and staff are required to monitor attendance throughout the day. All centres are equipped with a Disaster Plan, First Aid kits, emergency evacuation plans, emergency exits, sprinklers, and earthquake supplies. Enrolled families are given a list outlining the items to include in their child’s earthquake kit. Staff are first aid certified and the college provides OFA attendants at each campus which support any emergencies in the centres.
In order to ensure a safe environment, staff also conduct daily visual inspections of our playgrounds, monthly fire drills, and annual earthquake drills.
Food & Drink
Parents are to provide nutritious lunches and snacks. We promote healthy eating in accordance with the Canada Food Guide and the child's dietary needs as well as an inclusive approach to the diverse foods that families provide for their children. Safe drinking water is available at all times and we encourage children to drink as much as they require. Food restrictions may be introduced when our centre staff are made aware of any child with a severe allergy. Staff consult with the child's enrolling parent and develop an individual care plan which reflects the needs of the child.
It is our hope to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all. The staff has the right to refuse admission to a child who appears to be too ill to be at child care. If a child becomes ill during the day, a staff member will contact the enrolling parent. If they can't be located, the staff member will make arrangements to send the child to the home of the emergency contact listed on the Registration Form. Whenever doubt exists about a child's health, staff may request that the parent seek medical advice and provide a doctor's note stating that the child is infection free. It is our hope not to inconvenience parents, but to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.
It is considered a late pick up if parents have not arrived by 4:50pm and have not left the centre by 5pm. If a late pick up occurs more than once, the enrolling parent will be required to pay a late fee of $10 for the first five minutes and $10 for each ten minute increment thereafter, payable immediately, or the following day, at the latest. If the late fee is not paid promptly, or there is another late pick up, notice may be given and termination of services may occur.
Two months' notice is required when a family wishes to withdraw their child from care. Our Withdrawal Form must be submitted to the Child Care Office on or before the end of each month and there is no reduction in fees due to early withdrawal.
