Testimonials

The services provided by Student Employment are exceptional. In particular, Irene Wallace’s workshops aimed at resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, and effective networking strategies have greatly benefited my students in highlighting and integrating skills which are targeted to placement opportunities. In addition, the information she delivers provides valuable tools to assist students in conducting and presenting themselves as professional student athletic therapists.

Having completed my BBA in Marketing Communications Management at Camosun, I accepted a position with Camosun in Student Marketing & Recruitment. As the college’s High School Recruitment Officer, I connect with high school students across Vancouver Island to let them know about the benefits of continuing their education at Camosun. I am often asked what support is available to students who are looking for work and am happy to tell them about the exceptional service provided by Student Employment. Read more…

The staff on Camosun’s Student Employment team is exceptional with helping students to create targeted cover letters/resumes as well as develop their interview skills. In addition to that, it is free for students to access the Student Employment Job Board and get information about which employers are hiring. I have had the pleasure to work with Student Employment team members, Irene Wallace and Nikki Johnson, and I am extremely impressed by their passionate attitude towards helping students find work. Their networking skills and professional approach to job searching are amazing and I would highly recommend that anyone at Camosun utilize the services they offer at Student Employment.

Free to students, comprehensive, up-to-date information, rewarding: These are just a few thoughts that come to mind when describing the Camosun College Student Employment Services. Through the support of Irene Wallace, Student Employment Facilitator, I was able to review, rewrite and renew my resume to make my criteria stand out among the crowds. The insight offered has been unparalleled to any service I have used to date; and from resume writing to interview preparation I have seen results. I had two interviews and I received both job offers. I am now employed with a respected company and couldn't be happier.

I should have taken advantage of the Student Employment Services earlier. The cover letters and resumes that the students produced after Irene Wallace, Employment Facilitator spoke to our students were exemplary. In addition she covered employment search strategies that will no doubt give our students the edge that they need to gain a position in our current competitive market. Thanks Irene!

I first discovered the wonderful world of Student Employment when I was invited by Irene Wallace, Employment Facilitator to participate in a couple of career information seminars that were taking place in the coming weeks. I chose to participate in one info session that was about “How to seek a career in the BC Public Service” which was very interesting. In the following weeks, I went back to Irene to receive some advice on how to better prepare my resume for entering the job market and I also learned about many of the other services that the department offers such as help with interview skills and cover letters, workshops, guest-speakers, and career fairs. I highly recommend using these services to any student who is seeking assistance in finding employment or who is interested in learning more about what the “working world” has to offer. The best part of it all is that it is free for students to use!!!

After having no call backs for quite some time, I was extremely pleased to have been short listed for an interview for a payroll clerk position with the Ministry of Natural Resources. Not only was I short listed but I ended up getting the position. I don't think this would have happened without the help from Irene Wallace, Employment Facilitator here at Camosun. Thank you very much for your assistance with my resume. I am sure to be back in the near future to work on networking skills.
