Bike Lock-up Program
Camosun has a locked complex at the Interurban Campus for 18 bicycles available to any Camosun student or staff member. Camosun Bookstore administers the program.
This is how the program works:
- Register and sign an agreement for rental privileges at the Interurban Bookstore.
- A monthly fee ($5.50) must be paid to the Bookstore for rental privileges. This can be paid on a monthly basis or in one lump sum for a longer period of time (at the time the agreement is signed).
- In exchange for this fee, you will be provided with an access code to enter the complex. This code will be changed regularly.
- You will be required to provide valid Camosun College identification to the Bookstore staff at the beginning of each month to receive the new code.
- The Bookstore will require the make/model/serial number of your bicycle when you sign the agreement.
- The access code will be given only to those that have provided valid identification and that have paid their monthly fee in full.
- The facility will be patrolled on a regular basis to ensure that only authorized users are gaining access.
- It is your responsibility to ensure that a proper lock is being used on your bicycle inside the facility.
- This service is offered on a “first come – first served” basis.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How much is the charge to use the bike lock-up facility?
- $5.50 a month. This fee will be reviewed at the end of the season.
- How come the rental fee is so cheap?
- The College is basically providing the facility for free. We want to encourage people to bike to school/work.
- Who would have access to the lock-up?
- Only the administrators, renters, and physical resources staff.
- Do I still need to lock my bike inside?
- yes and you are responsible for your own lock.
- Who is liable if my bike is stolen?
- the renter is responsible. The College is not responsible for any loss or damage to property inside the lock-up facility.
- What are the advantages of putting my bike there?
- your bike is in a secure environment (fenced lock-up, in the open) and, if for any reason, you have to leave your bike over night, it would be safer than leaving it locked up in the regular bike racks.
- The facility is covered, protecting your bike from the elements
- What happens if my bike gets stolen?
- Report damaged or stolen property to Campus Safety. 370-3075. Proper, legal procedure will follow.
- What if there is no space for my bike in the facility?
- The Bookstore only rents out space equal to the number of spaces available. If all the spaces have been rented, we will have a wait list. Again, first come, first added to the wait list!
- What happens to bikes that are in the facility for which there is no record
of a rental agreement?
- they will be locked by a master lock. The only way to get the bike unlocked is to address the situation (pay a monthly rental fee and sign a rental agreement) at the Bookstore during normal business hours.
- When does the access code change?
- first business day of the month, before 9:00 am.
- What happens if the code has been changed and you don’t have the
new code?
- every renter is responsible for confirming the access code for the bike lock-up from the Bookstore on the first business day of the new month. If it is after hours, contact physical resources, and show your ID. They will let you in, but you must still get the new code from the Bookstore the next business day.
- Can I prepay for several months, or even the year?
- no problem! Just check with the Bookstore the first day of each month to confirm the access code. You will need to show ID.
- Can individuals who are not students rent bike spaces?
- anyone attending Camosun College as a student, or is employed by Camosun College is eligible to use the facility.
- What happens if I continue to use the facility after my rental agreement
period has expired?
- The bike will be locked by a master lock. To retrieve the bike, the rental agreement must be made current (payment for the current month of $5 must be paid, and the rental agreement updated).
- When will there be a bike lock-up facility at the Lansdowne Campus
- The success of the lock-up facility at Interurban will determine future expansion plans for both campuses. Let the Bookstore (either campus) know of your interest!
- What if I get a new bike?
- To avoid getting your new biked double locked, let the Bookstore at Interurban know your new make, model and serial number for their records. If you wish to be able to lock either/both bikes in the facility, you will need to have a rental agreement and pay for both bikes.
