Who takes the English as a Second Language Placement Test?
Do you want to improve your English language skills? Do you want to take ESL classes to meet the English requirements of Camosun College courses and programs? If you do, you begin by taking an English as a Second Language Placement Test.
What is included in the English as a Second Language Placement Test and how long does the test take?
The Beginners test is for students who have little or no knowledge of English. If you come in for a Beginners test, you will have an interview. An interpreter can take part in the interview. Then, the interviewer may give you a written test. The test has two timed sections of multiple-choice questions
- Reading comprehension - 30 minutes
- Grammar - 30 minutes
You will be asked to write a paragraph. There is no time limit.
The Beginners test is written in the ESL Department at Interurban Campus. To make an appointment please call 370-4941.
The Intermediate test is made up of two timed sections of multiple-choice questions:
- Reading comprehension - 37 minutes
- Grammar - 28 minutes
You have 45 minutes for a writing sample.
Total time for the Beginners test (including directions): 1 - 2 hours
Total time for the Intermediate test (including directions): 2.5 hours
