English Placement Test
Who takes the English Placement Test?
Anyone wanting to take academic upgrading courses (ABE) begins by either coming to or calling Enrolment Services at either campus. If you have a high school transcript, bring it with you. If your transcript shows that you received a C or higher in academic English 10, 11 or 12, you can enter English 092/094 without an English assessment.
Anyone wanting the following programs or courses and not having the published pre-requisites takes the English Placement Test:
- Any Camosun College course or program that has an English requirement
- Applied Communication Program
What is included in the English Placement Test and how long does the test take?
The test is made up of three timed sections of multiple-choice questions:
- Vocabulary - 16 minutes
- Reading comprehension - 34 minutes
- Grammar - 24 minutes
There is 1 hour given to write an essay, or 30 minutes to write a paragraph.
Total time for the test (including directions): 2 ½ - 3 hours
