Fundamental English Placement Test
Who takes the Fundamental English Placement Test?
This test is best used by anyone wanting to take English upgrading courses but whose previous experience in academic English is an incomplete Grade 10 level or lower. If you are unsure which level of English test best applies to you then call or visit Enrolment Services at either campus (250 370 3550). If you have a high school transcript, take it with you to Enrolment Services. If your transcript shows that you completed academic English 10, 11 or 12, then the regular English Placement Test is better suited to your needs. Note the Fundamental Test is designed for native English speakers. If English is not your first language, the English as a Second Language Placement Test is likely a better option for you.
What is included in the Fundamental English Placement Test and how long does the test take?
The test is made up of three timed sections of multiple-choice questions:
- Vocabulary - 17 minutes
- Reading comprehension - 37 minutes
- Grammar - 28 minutes
And one written section - paragraph (approximately 1 page of writing) 30 minutes
Total time for the test (including directions and paperwork): 2.5 - 3 hours
