Matthew Barbas

Matthew joined Camosun College in 2019 to develop and teach courses in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. He instructs students in cardiac sonography procedures, sonography physics, and cross-sectional anatomy. Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, Matthew completed his Honours Bachelors of Science Degree in Kinesiology from McMaster University and then went on to complete the Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography program at Mohawk College. Matthew has always had a passion for teaching; he has been a preceptor to students from BCIT and Mohawk College and is always involved in training new cardiac sonographers at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. As a cardiac sonographer, Matthew has always relished in the opportunity to present fascinating cases and pathology to his fellow sonographers. Matthew was one of the main facilitators for change to implement contrast enhanced echocardiography at the Royal Jubilee Hospital; this has been a significant step to improve the quality of studies and patient care. Matthew continues to works as a cardiac sonographer to keep up with his clinical skills and advancements in new cardiac ultrasound applications.
