Dr. Trystyn Berg is an instructor in the Physics and Astronomy department at Camosun. After completing his PhD in astronomy at the University of Victoria, Trystyn completed six years of postdoctoral research, including working at the Paranal Observatory in Chile as a European Southern Observatory fellow and at NRC-HAA in Victoria as a Plaskett Fellow. Trystyn’s astronomy research focuses on using spectroscopy to trace the chemical composition of the gas within galaxies to understand how galaxies change over cosmic time. Outside of academics, Dr. Berg is an avid curler, and loves Vancouver Island's golfing, hiking, and ocean kayaking scene.

Trystyn developed his passion for teaching whilst instructing astronomy labs during his graduate studies. He is very grateful to be able to continue teaching as an instructor at Camosun, which facilitates one-on-one interactions with students to help them cultivate their curiosities of the cosmos.
