Faculty/staff profile
Instructional Assistant, SHC - Physics
Matt grew up on Vancouver Island and moved to Victoria to study mechanical engineering. He completed the Mechanical Engineering Technology program at Camosun College and then completed the Engineering Bridge program to UVic. He then graduated from the University of Victoria with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. During Matt’s co-op work terms, his focus was on designing, manufacturing, and testing prototypes for product development and scientific research. After graduation, he worked as an application engineer / technical salesperson for a pump distribution company where he was sizing and selling slurry pumps to mining and aggregate sites across Canada.
Matt discovered his love for teaching when he founded a tutoring company, called Heywood Academies, in 2022. He has built up a team of dedicated educators to help students in science and engineering programs. Matt is now also an Instructional Assistant in the Science Help Centre at Camosun College where he helps students study physics. He finds it extremely rewarding to be able to work with a variety of students who are passionate about learning.
